1. Log in to the EPF site using your username & password.

2. Go to the Payments tab and click ECR / RETURN FILING.

3. Click ECR Upload file → ECR Upload.

4. On the page that opens, fill in the details step by step:
a. Wage Month: the month for which you are filing
b. Salary Disbursal Date: end-of-month date
c. Select file: choose the file
d. File Type: select the file you want to upload (ECR/Arrear)
e. Contribution Rate %: 12
f. Remarks: mention the file type, month and year
g. Click Upload.

5. On the page that opens, click Verify.

6. Click OK.

Note: Before verifying, you can download the ECR Statement for future reference.

7. On the page that opens, click Prepare Challan.

8. On the page that opens, match the Payable Amount with the Pay Register & Portal, then click Generate Challan.

9. After you click Generate Challan, a new window opens with a pop-up message showing the final payable amount of EPFO against the monthly EPF contribution. Press OK to proceed, or Cancel to cancel the challan.

10. After the final confirmation of the challan in step 10, your data is submitted on the EPFO site and saved on the EPFO server. Check the status of the challan: it now shows “Draft”, which means you can still edit the entries made in EPF RETURN FILING. You can also check the upload date & time under the Upload Date column and cross-check the wage months.

Save the TRRN Number for future reference. After checking these points, click the Lock symbol under the Finalize column.

11.

After you click the LOCK symbol in step 10, a pop-up message appears for the final confirmation of the EPF return filing. Click OK to submit the final step of the EPF challan. After you click OK, your EPF challan is ready to pay.

Note: Once finalized, you can’t make any changes to the challan details.

Note: Navigate: Go to Control Panel → Payroll → Report → Compliance → PF Register → Download ECR.
2. Download the Pay Register and PF Register and match the PF/Arrear amounts with each other.
